Specialty coffee, now available in capsules

With the introduction of capsules, The Last Bean is taking the next step in making exceptional coffee accessible. Our capsules are now available through our online store, without compromising on what remains essential to us: quality, origin, and flavor. 

While capsules are often associated with convenience, The Last Bean proves that this can go hand in hand with refinement. Both our specialty coffees and a selection of our exclusive Estate Coffees are now available in capsule form. 

This means that even without a bean-to-cup espresso machine, you can enjoy coffee that has been selected, roasted, and blended with the same care and respect for each origin.


No compromise on quality

Choosing capsules comes with a significant responsibility. Coffee is a living product, and its aromas and flavor profiles are quickly lost if not optimally protected. 

That is why The Last Bean has consciously chosen aluminum capsules.


Why aluminium?

  • Provides a virtually complete barrier against oxygen, light, and moisture 
  • Aromas and flavor profiles remain exceptionally stable 
  • Shelf life of 12 to 24 months without significant loss of quality 
  • Packaged under nitrogen (N₂) to minimize oxidation as much as possible 
  • Infinitely recyclable without loss of material quality 
The result is a cup of coffee that comes as close as possible to the coffee roaster’s original flavor intention.



The difference lies in the material

The quality of a capsule is largely determined by how well it blocks oxygen. This is not a minor detail, but pure physics: the less oxygen that penetrates, the better the coffee is preserved. Not all capsules perform equally well in this regard:


    Plastic capsules with a barrier (e.g., EVOH):

    • Significantly improved protection compared to standard plastic 
    • Shelf life: 6 to 12 months 
    • Performance depends on humidity and storage conditions


    Standard plastic capsules:

    • Continuous oxygen ingress 
    • Faster loss of aroma and complexity 
    • Shelf life: 3 to 6 months 
    For high-quality coffee, one simple rule applies: the better the barrier, the closer you stay to the original taste experience.
